A custom Google+ URL is a short, easy-to remember web address that links directly to your profile or page.
Google first started testing custom URLs back in the middle of August 2012. About a week later, the company started notifying individuals and brands with verified accounts. Now Google has announced that custom URLs are almost available to everyone. If you don’t see the option yet on your Google+ profile or Google+ Page, don’t worry: Google says it is expanding availability throughout the week.
So what are Google+ custom URLs? - They are custom URLs that users can sign up for make a short and easy to remember web addresses linking directly to the Google+ profile or page.
Recently we have recived an email from Google too that we have right to claim our own Google+ custom URL. Only thing that we needed to do it is to click to Get Custom Google+ Url link and claim our own url.
Now we can direct people to google.com/+Ingeniumweb to visit our page rather than plus.google.com/110457921711170322499.
Requirements for getting a Google+ custom URL
To get custom URL your profile needs to meet the following criteria:
- Has a profile photo
- Has at least 10 followers
- Has an account that’s at least 30 days old
If you meet the eligibility requirements, you can get a custom URL for your Google+ account or page. This means you can choose one of the custom URLs Google preassigns to your Google+ profile or page. According to Google, depending on the preassigned custom URL, you may also need to add a few letters or numbers to make it unique to you.
Google will allow any brand or business that has a linked website or is a verified local business to claim a custom URL well. But there are some rules as well:
- Local Google+ pages: must be a verified local business
- Non-local Google+ pages: must be linked to a website
Getting your custom URL through Google+
If you meet the above criteria and didn't receive any email notification from Google, then visit your your Google+ page or Profile and check do you have a notification at the top of it.
- Click Get a custom URL button to get started.
- You'll see the URL(s) you've been approved for.
- Check the box to agree to the Terms of Service.
- Click Change URL.
- Once approved, this URL will be linked to your Google+ page or Profile.
Alternatively you can change it from the About tab on your Profile. Just cick the Get link located under your Google+ URL.
